A Note from Dr. Joan Fleischman, Early Options, New York
Are you needing to end your early pregnancy, and live in a state where abortion is no longer legal, or accessible to you? There is a safe and simple resolution to the difficult situation you are in.
While you’ll need to travel to New York City, our non surgical SofTouch procedure is quick, gentle and safe and can be completed through 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Our patients, who have trusted us with their medical care for 25 years, have found that it is simpler to travel in and out of New York than trying to navigate finding abortion pills and securing follow up care.
Here are some advantages of coming to Early Options for the SofTouch procedure. These advantages are especially important if you can not get follow up care in the state where you reside.
Compare to Abortion Pills
- There is less bleeding
- There is less cramping
- Your hormones go down quickly
- There is usually immediate resolution
- It’s usually completed in one visit
Compare to a D&C (surgical abortion)
- It’s quiet and gentle
- It’s completed in a familiar exam room
- You can have a companion by your side
- You can resume normal activities immediately
- You can eat and drink normally
The revolutionary SofTouch procedure removes early pregnancy tissue from the uterus, it’s also called Manual Uterine Aspiration (MUA.) It can be used for an abortion, to treat a miscarriage, or to treat ongoing bleeding related to either one. Compared to other options it is completed in one short visit and doesn’t require a follow up, it is medically straight-forward and convenient enough to fit your schedule.
Having a SofTouch procedure can be an empowering experience, for both abortion and miscarriage management. Hear from our patients about their personal experiences.

FAQ's
There’s a reason this method is called SofTouch. It’s a gentle, noninvasive procedure performed with a soft touch by our highly trained physicians. While every woman is different, most patients experience a few minutes of cramping. This is nothing to be afraid of. We will provide you with pain medication to manage the cramps and our clinicians are expertly trained at supporting you during these few minutes of discomfort. It also helps to know that cramping is normal, and is actually a healthy sign that the uterus is going back to its regular size.
All early abortion methods are safe. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) and the Abortion Pill as the two safest methods for ending early pregnancy. Routine abortions of any kind do not cause problems with future pregnancies. Complications of SofTouch are usually minor and easily treated with antibiotics or a repeat procedure. You will be able to get pregnant if, or when, the time is right for you.
While every woman is different, we find that many of our patients leave our office feeling ready to resume their normal activities. There are no restrictions on what you can or can’t do after the procedure.
Yes! Our patients are usually ready to leave our office around 15-20 minutes after their procedure, feeling absolutely fine. Because it is non-surgical you do not need to be put to sleep so you will often feel the same way you feel after you have a PAP Test or GYN exam during a regular medical visit.
Yes. Your medical care is 100% private and confidential.
