SofTouch® is noninvasive and natural. If you plan to become pregnant in the future, SofTouch® will not impact your chances of conceiving. SofTouch® is more like getting a pap test than a surgical procedure. Only soft instruments are used and you are awake, so you can eat or drink normally before and after your visit. It is done in a regular exam room, a companion is welcome by your side, and there is a quick recovery.
There’s a reason this method is called SofTouch®. It’s a gentle, noninvasive procedure performed with a soft touch by our highly trained physicians. The medical term for SofTouch is Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA). SofTouch® is a branded name for providing MVA in a regular doctor’s office setting. Harvard-trained physician, Doctor Joan Fleischman, developed SofTouch® in order to normalize the early abortion experience. SofTouch® can also be used to treat an early miscarriage, or to treat an incomplete surgical abortion.
How is it done? SofTouch® (MVA) is completed with a small device called an aspirator which fits in the palm of a doctor’s hand. One of our physicians gently inserts a soft, flexible tube through the natural opening of your cervix and applies light pressure, releasing the pregnancy. The procedure lasts about 2-5 minutes with minimal discomfort, and most women feel capable of resuming their normal activities within 15 minutes.
SofTouch® vs. Abortion Pill. Most women who come to Early Options® choose the SofTouch method because it has many advantages over the Abortion Pill. SofTouch® is nearly 100% effective, compared to the Abortion Pill which is 96-98% effective. SofTouch is completed in one visit and our patients leave the office knowing the pregnancy is over. There is also less cramping and bleeding, and pregnancy symptoms subside more quickly.
